Easy Tips to Prevent Waterborne Diseases in Children

Children are especially vulnerable to illnesses like Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Diarrhoea, which are often spread through contaminated water and food. Simple preventive steps at home and school can protect them from these infections.

Hand Hygiene Comes First

Encourage children to wash their hands with soap and clean water:

  • Before eating
  • After using the toilet or helping a younger sibling with diapers
  • Before preparing or handling food
  • After caring for someone who is sick
  • After touching animals or playing outdoors

Eat and Drink Safely

  • Drink only boiled, filtered, or purified water.
  • Wash and peel all raw fruits and vegetables before eating.
  • Always prefer freshly cooked, piping hot food.
  • Keep cooked and raw food separate to avoid contamination.
  • Store food and drinking water in covered containers.
  • Refrigerate leftover food within 2 hours.
  • Avoid roadside food and uncovered snacks.
